Google to Enter E-Book Business
FOXBusiness

Google (GOOG) plans to start an online e-book store to compete directly with Amazon.com's (AMZN) Kindle and other electronic book readers, Reuters reported Thursday.
According to comments made by Google's Tom Turvey, the search company plans to launch the store, called Google Editions, in the first half of 2010 with approximately 500,000 books through its existing partnerships with publishers.
The books will be not be for a single e-reader or device, the company said.
Google's is the latest entry into the e-book industry, following Amazon's popular Kindle and an e-book reader by Sony (SNE). Bookstore chain Barnes & Noble (BKS) is also reported to be developing a reader as well.
