Australia Retail Sales Fall Unexpectedly In Sept.

    TOKYO -- Australia's retail sales fell by a seasonally adjusted 0.2% in September, compared with a revised rise of 0.7% a month earlier, data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics showed Wednesday. The market had been expecting to see a rise of 0.4%, according to a Dow Jones Newswires survey. Department store sales dropped 2.9%, but sales at cafes, restaurants and takeaway-food services climbed by 1%, data showed.
